Aim & scope

Aim

The Hyrcanian Journal of Clinical Medicine (HJCM) is an independent, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to the advancement of clinical medicine and clinically relevant health research. The journal aims to disseminate high-quality, methodologically rigorous, and ethically conducted research that contributes to the understanding, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and health conditions and supports improvements in patient care and healthcare delivery.

HJCM has a particular regional focus on Iran, with special attention to northern Iran and the Hyrcanian region of the southern Caspian Sea. The journal seeks to provide a scientific platform for research addressing regional disease patterns, healthcare priorities, clinical challenges, and emerging health needs, while connecting researchers and clinicians from the region with the wider international scientific community.

The regional focus of HJCM does not constitute a geographical restriction. The journal welcomes relevant submissions from across Iran, neighboring countries, and the international scientific community, provided that manuscripts fall within the journal’s clinical scope and meet its standards of scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical conduct, and reporting.

Scope

HJCM considers original and scientifically rigorous research across the broad field of clinical medicine, including but not limited to:

Internal Medicine and Medical Specialties

Research related to internal medicine and its subspecialties, including cardiology, gastroenterology, hepatology, endocrinology, nephrology, rheumatology, pulmonology, hematology, medical oncology, infectious diseases, and related clinical disciplines.

Surgery and Perioperative Medicine

Clinical research in general and specialized surgery, surgical oncology, urology, vascular surgery, transplantation, perioperative care, trauma, and other surgical disciplines, including studies addressing surgical outcomes, complications, and patient management.

Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women's Health

Research involving obstetrics, gynecology, reproductive health, maternal health, women's health, and clinically relevant reproductive medicine.

Pediatrics and Neonatal Medicine

Research concerning pediatric and neonatal diseases, clinical management, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes.

Neurology, Psychiatry, and Behavioral Medicine

Clinically relevant research in neurology, psychiatry, behavioral medicine, and related areas addressing the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and management of neurological and mental health conditions.

Emergency Medicine and Critical Care

Research in emergency medicine, intensive care, acute and critical illness, resuscitation, trauma care, and other areas of acute clinical management.

Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine

Clinical research related to anesthesia, perioperative medicine, critical care, pain management, patient safety, and associated clinical outcomes.

Oncology and Hematologic Disorders

Research addressing the prevention, diagnosis, molecular or clinical characterization, treatment, monitoring, and outcomes of malignant and hematologic disorders, particularly when findings have clear clinical implications.

Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology

Clinical and translational studies addressing infectious diseases, antimicrobial therapy and resistance, infection prevention, clinical microbiology, and clinically relevant host–pathogen interactions.

Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics

Research involving pharmacotherapy, drug safety, efficacy, adverse drug reactions, pharmacovigilance, therapeutic interventions, and other clinically oriented aspects of medicines and therapeutics.

Nursing in Clinical Medicine

HJCM welcomes research in nursing and nursing care as they relate directly to clinical medicine, including patient care, clinical outcomes, patient safety, symptom management, chronic disease management, clinical practice, and multidisciplinary management of diseases and medical conditions. Nursing research should have a clear clinical or patient-care relevance.

Diagnostic, Preventive, and Patient-Centered Clinical Research

The journal welcomes clinically relevant research involving diagnostic methods, screening, prevention, risk assessment, biomarkers, patient-centered care, quality of care, clinical outcomes, and healthcare interventions.

Digital Health, Medical Artificial Intelligence, and Clinical Technologies

HJCM considers research involving artificial intelligence, machine learning, medical imaging, digital health, clinical decision-support systems, telemedicine, and other emerging technologies when the study has a clear and meaningful application to clinical medicine, diagnosis, treatment, patient care, or healthcare delivery.

Translational and Interdisciplinary Clinical Research

The journal welcomes interdisciplinary and translational research that connects biomedical or technological advances with clear clinical relevance or potential application in human health and patient care.

Public Health and Healthcare Research with Clinical Relevance

Studies addressing public health, epidemiology, healthcare delivery, health services, and population health may be considered when they have a clear connection to clinical medicine, patient outcomes, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, or healthcare practice.

Clinical Education and Professional Practice

Research related to clinical education, professional practice, competency, and healthcare training may be considered when it has a direct relationship to clinical practice, patient safety, healthcare quality, or patient outcomes.

Article Types

HJCM considers Original Research Articles, Review Articles, Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, Brief Communications, Case Reports, Case Series, Letters to the Editor, and Editorials, provided that the submitted work is consistent with the journal’s aims and scope.

Scope Boundaries

HJCM primarily publishes research with a clinical or clinically applicable focus. Studies that are exclusively basic, laboratory-based, technical, computational, pharmaceutical, educational, or social-science oriented, without a meaningful connection to clinical medicine, patient care, human health outcomes, or healthcare practice, are generally outside the journal’s scope.

The geographic location of a study is not a requirement for publication. Research from any country may be considered when it is relevant to clinical medicine and meets the journal’s scientific, methodological, ethical, and reporting standards.

Through this scope, HJCM aims to maintain a clear identity as a clinical medicine journal with regional relevance and international reach, while providing a multidisciplinary platform for clinically meaningful research and evidence-based healthcare.
